Nikitia is celebrated every year on September 15th, in memory of St. Nikitas. The day starts with mass at the church of St Nikitas, in Frangokastello, Sfakia. Afterwards, the assembled crowd moves to the sports field, located opposite the church, so that the sport competitions can begin.
